Suvojit Hira
'Suvojit Hira' is an emerging young talent in the domain of visual arts and is progressively cultivating his unique style of expression through committed art practice. Suvojit is currently pursuing his esteemed Master’s Degree in ‘Textile Design’ at ‘Kala Bhavana’ Santiniketan, a well-known and distinguished centre for Visual Art practice and research in India. Earlier in the year 2023, the artist earned his Bachelor’s Degree in ‘Textile Design’ from ‘Government College of Arts and Craft’ (GCAC), Kolkata.
Born in 1998, the 'Suvojit Hira' regularly showcases his works in collaborative exhibitions in Kolkata and various other Indian cities. Suvojit received the prestigious ‘Manjushree Mukherjee Scholarship’ Award for his exemplary work presented at the ‘156th Annual Exhibition,’ organised by GCAC in 2020. In the following years, he was honoured with a ‘Certificate of Merit’ for his outstanding work displayed in the ‘158th Annual Exhibition’ organised by GCAC, Kolkata.
Hira's works were showcased at both the ‘First’ & ‘Second’ phase of ‘Third Kolkata International Art Exhibition 2025’ or ‘3rd KIAE 2025’ for short, curated by artist ‘Kaushik Gupta’ and were held at ‘Birla Academy of Art & Culture’ and ‘Academy of Fine Arts’ Kolkata, in the months of February and March respectively.
In his notable creation titled ‘The Wave through Obstacles,’ the artist has succeeded in developing a sophisticated body of work by applying Run Stitch, Eco Print, and Padding with Cotton on Katha (Quilt), which explores craft, language, and the body, as well as how each influences the others. Hira’s creations remain outstanding due to their detailed lines produced with stitching that narrate the tales of mental terrains and frameworks along with the energy it represents, evoking motions similar to wind, water, pebbles & twigs encountered in the natural world. His professional endeavours draw inspiration from Islamic mythology.
The artist now lives and works in works Santiketan.
