Maitri Chakraborty is an emerging young artist in the realm of visual arts and is steadily developing her unique style of expression through her dedicated artistic endeavour. In her view ‘Immersing herself in creating painting & design is just like driving her own vehicle on a carefree highway which eventually takes her to the most sought-after destination called freedom’. Chakraborty is presently pursuing her coveted Master’s Degree in ‘Textile Design’ at ‘Government College of Art and Craft’ Kolkata.

Earlier in 2023, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in ‘Textile Design’ from the same institution. In this succinct stage of her career thus far, Chakraborty has asserted her presence in several multi-artist exhibitions in Kolkata and other cities across India. Maitri was awarded for her acclaimed work exhibited at ‘159th Annual Exhibition’ held in 2024, organized by GCAC, Kolkata.

Chakraborty's works were showcased at both the ‘First’ & ‘Second’ phase of ‘Third Kolkata International Art Exhibition 2025’ or ‘3rd KIAE 2025’ for short, curated by artist ‘Kaushik Gupta’ and were held at ‘Birla Academy of Art & Culture’ and ‘Academy of Fine Arts’ Kolkata, in the months of February and March respectively.

The artist is naturally gifted with emotional touch & sensitivity. And on a first glance at her creation titled ‘Sammohan’ which translates to ‘Hypnosis,’ fabrics are stitched using the smocking technique to generate reliefs that resemble flower petals. Some amount of beads are incorporated into the central part of the flower as well as its highlighted areas, as well as they are placed throughout. The petals extend towards the midpoint to cease at the center, establishing a circle of captivating vision where most of viewers pause at the exquisite midpoint, captivated by the splendour and beauty. The artist lives and works in Kolkata.
