Nao Morigo is acknowledged as one of the most significant and globally esteemed contemporary artists in Japan today. She has remained a committed art practitioner from her childhood to the current day. Her works are extensively exhibited in many esteemed art galleries, museums, and international art biennials, not only in Japan but also in several European nations and the United States.

Born in 1978, in the lively city of Kobe, Nao Morigo honed her artistic skills and graduated from the prestigious ‘Kyoto Seika University’ in 2001 with a major in ‘Oil Painting,’  where she diligently studied the field of Western painting. Prior to this, in 1999, the artist had the opportunity to enroll in an exchange program at the prestigious ‘University of Michigan’ to study ‘Art and Design’.Nao intertwines her contemporary interpretations with the lively fabric of nihonga traditions, utilizing a stunning variety of mineral pigments, glimmering powdered brass, radiant pearls, and magnificent copper. As she frees herself from the confines of traditional techniques, embracing enduring materials, she explores the intricate interplay between time and the essence of iki. In her most recent hanging scrolls, the strands of past eras and modernity interlace to create a stunning tapestry. Gracefully poised on the delicate boundary that distinguishes the crisp sophistication of unblemished white canvases from the lavish bursts of vivid masterpieces, where the artist skilfully intertwines complexity and simplicity.

Nao is showered with numerous esteemed awards and accolades throughout her remarkable artistic journey to date. She is the recipient of the Osaka International Collection, Art Division Grand Prix, Osaka, Japan, and was also awarded First Runner Up of the Ronin|Globus Artist-in-Residence Program, NY, USA, in 2021 and 2017, respectively, to mention just a few.

The artist has made her commendable presence at ‘The 7th Geoje International Art Festival,’ where she received the Achievement Award from the jury at the Haegeumgang Theme Museum, held in South Korea in 2021. The 31st ‘Kyoto Art Festival International Exhibition of Art’ was hosted at the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art Annex in Kyoto, Japan.
